Prayer - Connecting with God

What Is Prayer header
Continually communicating with God through prayer has a place of great importance at River Rock Church because it is a vital part in the spiritual growth of every believer as we seek God's will for our lives.  Our relationship with God begins with prayer and our relationship with God will grow through prayer.  At River Rock, prayer is an integral part of Sunday worship services, on-going Life Groups, and various workshops offered throughout the year with the intention of encouraging and nurturing a deep personal prayer-life in all of us.

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."  I Thessalonians 5: 16-18

In addition, River Rock Church has established a Prayer Team to provide timely intercessory prayer on behalf of those facing times of personal needs, and also encourages the formation of Prayer Cells where two or more individuals commit to pray together on a regular basis.

Ways To Pray header
The Bible encourages us to pray in a variety of ways.  In short, prayer is talking openly with God and praising God for all that He has done and continues to do.  The most clear example of how to pray is from Jesus.  When His disciples asked Him to teach them to pray, He replied:

"This, then, is how you should pray:  "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'  For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But it you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."  Matthew 6:9-15

This is a great model prayer for us.  It shows us to come to God just as we are and willingly submit to His will in our lives.

The River Rock Prayer Team is a group of intercessory prayer warriors that are committed to pray for the prayer needs as they are made known through the River Rock Church family.  Prayer requests received through Communication Cards from worship services are prayed for by the River Rock Staff and then are passed on to the Prayer Team.  If you are interested in supporting one another in prayer by joining the Prayer Team, click the Get Involved button.

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for every one - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself up as a ransom for all men- the testimony given in its proper time.  And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and apostle - I am telling the truth, I am not lying - and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.  I want men everywhere to lift holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing."  I Timothy 2: 1-8
